OctaLink

This is a variation of the popular Nikoli puzzle Slitherlink.  The rules are basically the same but the layout is different.  Instead of the puzzle space being a grid of squares, the puzzle space in OctaLink is tessellated by octagons and squares.  Also, faint outlines of each shape are used here rather than vertex points in the regular puzzle.

Sample Puzzle ("3x3", Easy)                        and the answer:

Please note there is a single loop in the solution and all the numeric edge constraints are satisfied.
Octagons can have as many as 7 edges marked in a puzzle solution and squares can have as many as 3 (like Slitherlink).

Another good puzzle idea -- cheers.

#2 struck me as much easier than #1, for what it's worth. On #1, I made some progress by forcing things here and there, but didn't see how to force it once I'd reached a certain point (so I just picked a path and it "worked"). My "solution" (may or may not be wrong) doesn't match yours, at least for #1. I'll give it another look.

As for #2 -- the lower right has a touch of non-uniqueness (if you make the 2 go to the other corner and "stretch" the connection between the 1 and 3 squares so that they hit another side of the 3 octagon).

I like Fences variants in general, and appreciate your effort here. Thanks.
Thanks for the feedback, zundevil. If it ends up, #1 isn't unique either, I'll remedy that, too.
